The day this image was captured, we had driven a few hours to arrive at White Mountain National Forest, New Hampshire... only to discover that the park was closed. We must have only missed it by a few minutes.
Feeling slightly dejected, I went for a short walk across the road from the park's main entrance. In the few days prior, I had been dabbling with taking shots using intentional camera movement technique, without any great success. I decided to have another try here using a stand of trees in full fall colour as my subject.

As soon as I pressed the shutter button, I knew I had something special. I absolutely love this image. I'm not sure if it's because I managed to create something out of a disappointing situation, or because it was quite a departure from the style of images I have traditionally made, but whatever the reason, that short click made the hours of driving and the entire day, a complete success.
