The SOHO Odaiba
On my last trip to Japan, my itinerary crossed with the itinerary of fellow photographer, mentor, mate and all-round-good-bloke Ian Wilkinson and we ended up both being in Tokyo for the same few days. One evening, we were both shooting around the Odaiba waterfront and once we had completed what we set out to shoot, we decided to go for a photowalk around the riverside suburb.
This colourful piece of architecture was one stop on that walk. The SOHO Odaiba is a modern office/residential building. In Japan, SOHO is a term often used to describe a room that can function as both an apartment and an office space. SOHO = Small Office / Home Office. The SOHO Odaiba is a 13 story collaborative complex that offers shared workspaces and home offices for rent. It’s most striking feature is the rows and rows of colourful doors that surround all four sides of the inner courtyard.
